Just a note

I havent been doing very much latley because of my injury..... I can paint a little with my right, but find it almost impossible to do any stitching at all. However, I am still planning on joining the 2011 BJP and completing this years.... Ive got a fairly long healing process ahead of me..possibly some surgery. Usually when I take a long break from creating.... I come back with a vengence! It seems all that bottled up creativity bursts like a volcano...gotta get it out! Thanks for hanging in there, and thank you all for your lovely compliments thus far!

Nine

Color t.v!!!! We are watching" The man from U.N.C.L.E." My younger brother Kenny on the left, and older brother Steve on the right. The chain handle of my mothers purse used to change the channel when she picked it up! Color T.V. was so exciting.

I was a baby once.....

And then there is Sikki, keeper of the sweet rolls.

Sikki is Icelandic for " trouble maker". I named him well.

Im slowing down......

Ive gone and injured myself. Gosh I hate it when that happens! Rather than sitting here with nothing to say or show, ill throw some tidbits atcha. ( This is one of my boys named Bam. He was named by my then 15 year old son. Bam is a skateboarding champ I guess!) I have only recently been attracted to cats as pets. They are also very photogenic in my opinion!

Red flower frame in progress.....

Ive blended some red metallic threads around the edges and will be adding some beads later.

Pen drawing

My favorite time of the year!

Time for a break......

It seems like my left shoulder/arm injury is catching up with my right shoulder these days. Its hard to sit and stitch for very long....
and is worsening by the day. Im afraid I wont be able to lift my arm at all if this continues! Here is a pic of some decorated bottles and such, that ive done.

July in progress

This is what ive come up with so far. I whitewashed the black bird and used red , white, and black threads. The center circle is foiled and surrounded by white and metallic threads. It is done on faded jean material. It is difficult to see the beadwork in this photo...so sorry about that...more later....!

" Enigma " 2010

Wow.. I finally finished this one after almost three years.. Its basically a thread painting without any kind of beadwork. I made the UFO from metallic foil and metal material. Its quite big, 24" x 24".

Three layers of painted pexiglass

I made this and gave it to my son for his birthday. I used some angelina foil and acrylics. It was a difficult task and a learning experience! First of all, I had to use a special glue made just for plexiglass that dried almost in an instant which left no room for mistakes. It has the consistency of water and evaporated into thin air because the lid wasnt tight enough when I closed it. ugh..need to buy another can..This was really hard to photograph because of light reflections. I plan on making another one in the future.

June 2010

I couldnt resist using a cd for my June page. I used a giant glass button for the centerpiece, and added embroidery, gold paint , and beads. Im not so sure I like my beading job... but I learned something from it, which is a good thing. The next time I bead , I know what not to do!

just a little peek

Im almost done with my June piece..... This one starts with another cd..I havent gotten the cd bug out of my system quite yet!

I painted some leaves and decorated them with more beads... and attatched them to the front!

I then placed the cds on the back, facing foward with Liquid Nails....( super strong stuff) Before attatching the cds, I painted the back with black acrylics to avoid reflections...

Beads and paint

I added my beads and paint to the front.

This is how I created " Four Flowers"

First.... I flipped my canvas over. I traced the size of the cds onto the back. I then carefully cut out the shapes using an exacto knife.

Cd quilt painting 2010

I decided to quit after making 12 of these cds... and place them on canvas with a little Angelina film.I realised that I put too much work into them and didnt want to have to cover parts! While joyfully creating these cds, I came up with another great way to use them in my artwork.I will be finished with the other cd painting very soon. I think I will start focusing on my BJP after that!

decorated bottle 2010

I love to decorate bottles of any kind. On this one I used baking clay, colored mosaic glass, crystal buttons , rhinestones, and gold film.

painted mirror 2010

I used tons of glitter and lenticular sheet circles for this one. Lenticular sheets is a material that changes image with the direction of light hitting it.

Another idea for cds

I just painted these with acrylics and jones metallic papers. Then I strung them together with fishing line and hanged it in my bathroom!

Only ten more to go... ( I need nineteen!) These are difficult to photograph, if anyone is interested, I can photograph each one separately in order to see more detail. If not, well we will have to wait for the end result!

Heres how im doing it

Cut out and ready to go!
I then stuck a cd behind the fabric, facing outward, and placed another piece of fabric behind that and stitched them together.

Then I decorated it with sequins and embroidery. After that, I carefully cut out the holes leaving a little black along the edges. I also carefully painted the edges of the circles to give it a cleaner look.

There were no instructions for this so I had to figure it out on my own.... First , I painted the traced outline of the cd. I then made circles to be cut out later.
Im not sure yet about how I plan to put them all together.

Here are some of my covered cds so far

I found this on the net

I love Cd's , they are sooo pretty! Someone created this wonderful wall hanging from old Cd's , fabrics , and embellished it with embroidery. There are holes cut out to let the Cd surface shine through. I couldn't resist the urge to create my own version of this clever work of art!

I decided against adding a frame or fringe on Mays piece. I like how the beading turned out although I must admit I have allot to learn about beading!

Beadwork

I painted the background before starting with the beads, in case I decide to let a little show through. As I said before, I have no real plan drawn out for this one, other than framing it with another wreath of flowers and perhaps some beaded fringe...... also, I used diamond glaze as a glue for the small wreath and accidentally spilled a bit on the face. Its impossible to wipe off so...I just painted the rest of the face with it. I didnt really want it to shine, but it does.

some leaves

Im creating as I go along, with no real plan this time. I cut out leave shapes from fabric and painted the veins with purple foil. (Jones tones) I then stuck them onto sticky felt and cut them out.

Friday, June 25, 2010

cutting out the wreath

I first carefully painted around the edges of the threadwork with liquid black acrylic paint on both sides. This keeps it from fraying and makes it a little stiffer. I then carefully cut it out with my tiniest pair of scissors.

This is how the face will be framed a little later down the road.....

ring of flowers

I want to start with placing a ring of flowers around the face. To tell you the truth im not sure of the size I want, so I will most likley make two sizes and choose. After the ring is done , Ill carefully cut it out to be attatched at some point later around the face.

Saturday, June 19, 2010

How to attatch face ?

This face is hollow and not flat. I molded some baking clay around the edges, and poked some holes into it for easy attachment to a flat surface. I then painted the clay with gold acrylic paint. ( Im still wearing my thinking cap...the possibilities are endless!!)
